Welcome to the blog. So, what was your time in your "unofficial marathon?"

From Kelli on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 16:52:57

Hey, BURT, this is my sister-in-law that you have already discovered! Way to be the welcoming wagon.

Yeah, Kristel!! Welcome. Now, do not read my stuff too closely, you will find out I am a bit NUTS. I am going to have to behave now that a family member knows where to find me!!!

Go check out the training Blogs of MichelleL (she took 2nd in St George and KNOWS how to train) and Smooth (she is awesome and has a great training program--from a book, I think). Just look at what they do each day and prepare to be WOWED!

From Burt on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 17:07:44

I'm just surprised I beat Walter at welcoming someone. I always imagine him at the chapel doors, "Brother McCumber! We're so glad you're here today!"

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 17:11:02

Kristel!!! WELCOME to the blog!!! We love Kelli. She is an awesome friend, beautiful inside and out. We're so excited you join the family (FRB, that is). What races are you running this year? The "virtual SLC marathon" sounded fun especially with your hubby biking close by. Hope you can come out to Utah and run one with us.

From Michelle N. on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 17:15:04

Welcome Kristel! You have a great sister. You'll love the blog. It is a lot of fun!

From leslie on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 17:28:27

I am curious to hear what you are training for too. You will enjoy the blog family we are a happy bunch that love to talk about running and anything else you can think of, FOOD is on the top of our list on many days! It will be fun to read more about you and your running adventures!! Again, WELCOME!!!

Welcome Kristel. You will love the blog, and it becomes addictive so be careful! I've only been doing it for a little over a month and I seem to almost put as much time in here as the gym :) Congrats on the marathon, and your recent 1/2! Keep up the great training.

Welcome to the blog. You have an awesome sis in law!! And, I can't believe how much your hubby looks like her, you can tell they are siblings. How fun! You had a great work out today! Way to go. I hope you enjoy the blog!

Welcome to the blog. You have some great goals. Good luck with achieving them.

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 09:47:35

Oooo, where did you do spinning??? I have always wanted to try spinning. I hear it kicks your butt (and I bet it hurts your butt, too!)

I have seen those infomercials for hip hop abs, I could never do that. I have no coordination. I am clumsy and have no rhythm. But I am sure you have rock hard abs. I figure I do not need to worry about mine since I will never be able to see them again!

My brother is CUTE.

From Marion on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 10:14:07

Welcome to the blog! Nice workout! I really want to try the hip hop abs. It looks fun, but mostly I want to look like the people on the dvd :D

From Rachel on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 18:28:41

I've always wanted to try Hip Hop Ab's! I'm such a sucker for infomercials. Next time you're in town you'll have to bring it along and have an Ab's party at Kelli's.

From kristel on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 18:54:19

Sounds good...we will have an abs party. It's a lot of fun! Thank you everyone for making me feel so welcome!

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 13:23:37

Oh my, what is this ab ripper? Have you got a 6 pack or what???

We ran in 35 degrees this morning and a little wind. Does that make you feel better? It is hard when the weather changes, that is for sure! I did not realize New Orleans was so warm. We ran one day last week and it was 14 degrees. I honestly never thought I would be able to do that, but you get used to it.

Have a good day!

Kristel, Welcome to the blog. It will be fun getting to know you from a distance. Bring your running shoes when you come visit Kelli!

From Rachel on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 18:31:57

Oh, I can't wait for 50 degree weather! I'm traveling to NC/SC to run the Myrtle Beach 1/2 with my sister who lives there and I'm just basking in the IDEA of 60 degree weather!

From kristel on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 19:03:21

I know I have no right to complain about the weather. Kelli, check out P90X on beachbody.com. It is super intense...Justin (your cute brother) has been doing it and he is in super shape now...you should see him! I do the ab ripper and the plyometrics. Maybe next time we come we will actually get to see you.

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 19:08:22

Well, everyone will have ripped abs but me! My stomach is not very elastic apparently, no matter how much weight I lose, the skin just does not move. I would have to have surgery which is not gonna happen! I could pretend to have ripped abs...

So, you and my cute brother can be cute, skinny, and ripped together!!

On that website I saw Slim in 6. I have a bunch of friends who do that and love it. Maybe I should quit the gym and just get some tapes? I do Yoga ta home almost every night, but that is about it.

Scott is now smaller than he was in High School. All of this running has got him RIPPED and skinny as well. Seriously, am I the only person on earth that can not lose weight and keep it off?????

And you can complain about the weather, it is humid there and i would not want that. I will take the cold over humidity any day.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 19:35:51

NICE run and GOOD JOB on the ripped abs. I don't have any abs to be ripped, just flubber and spare tire in the middle.

Nice pic. I can see Kelli's cute resemblance in Justin. You are a darling couple.

Kristel, thanks. I think the good company is what keeps you going on those off days. Looks like you had a great run! At least for me 8:45 is an awesome pace for that distance in a training run, keep up the hard work!

From Kelli on Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 17:52:34

I am glad you found a running partner, it makes running more bearable (I do not love it like you do, remember?) Enjoy those warm runs you are getting, one day you may be back in Utah freezing your tushie off with the rest of us.

Today was rather warm (high 74)...I was too lazy to get up when my alarm went off at 5:00 this a.m. so I had to go run after lunch.  It had been a while since I pushed my 5 & 2 1/2 year old in the jogger and I forgot how hard it is!  After 4 miles of pushing and the hot sun beating down on me I was dead.  After soccer practice for the girls I got another 2 miles in and did 40 minutes of Hip hop abs.  Now I'm off to bed!!!

Holy crud, 4 miles pushing those two in the stroller??? WOW. Now that is a serious workout, you should have stopped there!!!

I hate early mornings, too. I am sick of it. But it is then or not at all for me! I can not wait for warmer weather, Emma loves to go running in the stroller. But I think she would freeze if I tried now!

Have a good night.

Woke up feeling terrible today and so did my husband. Yuck!  I hate being sick.  Fever and chills for both of us.  No running or much of anything but resting today.  Such a bummer, we are supposed to run a 10k trail run together out of town Saturday.  Not looking good for us...maybe tomorrow will be better!

My husband and I made it to our 10k trail run.  We are both recovering from sickness but decided to do it anyway.  We had a blast!  I forgot how fun trail running is...haven't done it since Utah over 6 months ago.  It rained all day and night before the race so it was nice and juicy for us.  I didn't think hills were possible in Louisiana but oh man was I WRONG!  It was hills the whole time!  The first turn in the trail wasn't marked super well so my husband and a couple others in front of me missed it and went running off in the forest.  So of course I had to go running and yelling after them.  After a couple minutes I got their attention and we all headed back to the trail.  It took some effort to get back to a comfortable pace after that.  I'm not sure what my time was...I think it was around 55 minutes (I'll find out Monday).  I was super excited as I passed thru the finish line and they told me I was the 1st female!  So I won overall female and who doesn't LOVE winning?

Glad you two are feeling better and that you were able to run.

From Kelli on Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 21:20:01

I was thinking last night, was is a trail race? Are you like in the mountains and dirt an stuff? Or are you just on a trail??? I do not think I could run on mountainy type trails, I would roll my ankle or worse. That has got to be hard!

From kristel on Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 23:07:05

Yes it was in the mountains. Single file, jumping over logs and mud puddles, ducking under branches...Justin and the other guy we were running with both fell pretty hard! It was hard but SO much fun. It was one of the funnest runs I have ever done and ever since then I have been looking for more longer trail runs.

From Kelli on Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 14:52:09

I think I would have killed myself! Trails like that scare me, I think I will stick to walking on them! I am accident prone big time. WAIT, so is Justin!!! He better be careful he will end up all broken.

Very cool and impressive, trail running is super tough.

Hope you are 100% very soon. How are the kids? Did they get it?

From Rachel on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 15:34:33

My sister, who has long hair like yours (at least in your picture) and she pulls it back in a braid off the back of her neck and it falls over the front of her shoulder. She and I both complain about the 'rats nest' but her hair is a TON longer than mine. You're doing a great job on your time! My long miles usually turn out closer to or over 9 mm. Great job, especially not feeling 100%!!

Kelli

Thanks! I'm wondering if I should go to the Dr or just keep waiting it out...I just still feel sick! I'm trying to take it easy but I hate it! Luckily Justin is feeling better and the girls didn't get it. I have been loading the vitamin c into everyone and making sure we all get our spinach smoothie every morning. I'm sure it's helping!

Rachel

Thanks so much! Now I just have to get feeling better so I can up my miles again. Seriously if you guys can come up with any solution to the hair problem...I would love it! I'm contemplating cutting mine because after every run I have to spend 10 minutes in the shower untangling and trying to get the nest out!

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 18:43:43

What do you have??? Maybe you should go to the Dr. I do no know what is up way out there, but everyone is sick in Utah. Strep is going around rampantly, plus the flu and many funky viruses. I have felt like crud since Sunday, it stinks!!! My head feels like it going to explode (I am saying this here becasue I promised not to complain on my blog!!)

Keep up the spinach (YUCK---and YES, I have tried it. I'll keep my spinach in my salad and sandwiches!!!) I am sure it is doing you a world of good---it is a miracle food!

Kelli,YOU are saying I work out a lot...YOU are the machine!!! I am a freak about my abs. 3 kids stretched them out a lot but they're getting there!

From Kelli on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 22:49:02 from 71.219.75.10

I am sure you have abs of steel and you have EARNED them, dang it. Mine were never great before kids, so I have no hope for them and just kind of ignore them. My skin is not elastic, I have learned that. As I lost weight, the skin on my stomach did not budge, it is annoying but the only thing that will fix it is surgery and i will not do that! So, I am sure I have a little ab muscle, but no one will ever be able to see it!

(****We are all freaks when it comes to working out, so we are here to get on everyone elses case about it and pretend that we are normal! I do a lot, but I eat a lot so I have to!!!)

Are you feeling ALL better?? I hope so. There was a nasty cold going around here (as well as strep and the flu). We all got it and it was/is crazy. Zachary has not had a voice for 2 weeks, he just squeaks. It is ANNOYING!!! It is time for winter and illness to BE GONE!

Have a good day!

Kelli,

I can't believe how much our bodies change after having babies but I guess it's worth it right? I'm really glad I joined this blog...it's nice to have people who share the same interests (or should I say obsessions?). We live in the 3rd most obese state so it's not too hard to stand out here if you are in shape. One of the mom's from Anna's preschool told me I look way too skinny and she wasn't just being polite. Most of my friends think I'm crazy so you are lucky to have such a great group surrounding you. I seriously can't wait until we move west!

I am finally feeling better but still have a little congestion. It was a brutal cold. It's really warming up here so hopefully the colds will clear out a little!

From Kelli on Fri, Mar 06, 2009 at 12:11:45 from 71.219.75.10

Are we the most obese state???? Na, I think the west is pretty in shape, right? Mississippi is first, isn't it (I think I saw that on Oprah).

My friends all think I am crazy, too, go figure!

Kids are worth it for sure, most of the time!

Have a good day.

None of this sounds lazy to me. I saw on the weather that you guys were gonna get wacky weather. It seems to be going around.

Have a good weekend! Hope your birthday was GREAT!

Unfortunately all 3 of my girls have been sick with fever and cough...yuck!  I was not able to do my long run on Saturday and have been exhausted from the long nights taking care of everyone. Tonight I was finally able to get something in.  I did bike for 60 minutes, abripperx, push ups.  It felt so good to exercise!  Hopefully I will not get this as bad as they did...I am feeling stuffed up!

I am so sorry they are sick. Colby is really sick and it is getting old. I keep telling him that unless he pukes on the floor, he does not need to come and wake me every time!!!! I am so tired...

Hope the girls get well soon and that the two of you do not catch it. How was your birthday?

From kristel on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 22:46:58 from 68.227.147.42

That's too bad Colby has been sick. Anna has been getting up atleast once a night for months now with nightmares and I have to get up and put her back in her bed...It's exhausting!!! My birthday was good. Just an easy going day.

I am glad you found a running partner. Is this a new partnership??? Running with people has made all of the difference in the world for me. #1---it gets me out when I do not want to and #2---the force me to push myself as I tend to be a kind of lazy runner (I prefer jogging to running).

And, to answer your question from my blog---NO!!!!!! I absolutely DO NOT like that sore ab feeling. Hate it. I do not mind sore legs, but I hate anything else to be sore, it makes me feel like I have the flu. This is why I rarely work my abs and I will probably have abs of jelly for the rest of my life!!!

Jeff has been doing that workout thingy (i forgot the name of it, but the one with the abripper routine). He says it is working. I put it on hold at the library. I am like #144 or something, so I might just get it by this time next year!!!

Have a great day! Do you guys have a trip planned up here at all this summer?

From kristel on Tue, Apr 07, 2009 at 22:25:29 from 68.11.62.99

Kelli

Yes, Ryan and I have been running together for a couple weeks almost every morning. It is so great because we both have similar goals and are both up for almost anything. I love it!!!!

How long has Jeff been doing p90x? That is awesome he is doing it. Hopefully we will be able to come in June or July for a while. It all depends on the money... the girls and I will have the time when they are out of school.

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 07, 2009 at 22:27:57 from 71.219.84.191

I think Jeff has been doing it for a few week. He borrowed it from his brother.

It was super windy and cold today.  This weather is crazy right now!  Ran about 5 slower miles (the wind slowed us down a bit) then ran 2 fast (the last mile was in the 7's but I can't remember exactly what it was).  Ryan and I were both tired from our activities over the weekend.  We will kick it in gear tomorrow!

Tonight I did 40 minutes of yoga and my 1 & 1/2 pullups!

Ran 10 miles this am with Ryan.  Our ave pace was 8:24.  It was a good run...cold still.

Later in evening went to our friends for dinner.  We made sushi.  It was so good and lots of fun!  After that I ran 1 slow mile with my 16 year old friend (my friend Sue's daughter)  and walked a little over a mile.  Finished off my night with 10 pushups and 40 girl pushups and of course abripperx.  Ok I am tired now!

Ran the parking garage today with Ryan for our hill workout.  Not sure on the pace...the garmin wouldn't work.  It felt like we were pretty decent today!

I took 2 of my girls to the zoo (they are off for good friday and spring break all next week) so we did lots of walking.  Also did pullups and 40 minutes of yoga.  My 3 year old did the last little bit with me and it was hilarious!

Ran the Crescent City Classic 10k this morning with my husband and Ryan. It was a beautiful day and a great run! It was fun to see all the free beer and doughnuts on the route and a guy dressed up in a devil costume offering hotdogs to runners. My time was 47 mins- 7:47 ave pace on the garmin.

Miles-8:28,7:52,7:52,7:40,7:46,7:24,6:49

I was happy with it...the first mile was so slow because of how packed it was...it was hard weaving in and out of all the walkers and slower runners. Justin's time was @40 minutes which he could have done a lot faster but hasn't been feeling well(That's Kelli's brother so of course he is fast just like her!)

WOW!! Great job on that 10k. Those shorter races are so hard for me, I just can not every get into a groove! I feel like I am sprinting the entire time. My ONLY 10k ever was also 47 minutes, so watch who you are calling fast! If I am, then what are you?????? Look at that 6:49 mile! What the heck!?!

And Justin did it in 40 minutes? HOLY SMOKES!!!! He always was the fastest child in the family, and he does not even try.

15 on a Monday, that sounds like torture.

My bank now has this little TV thing you can watch while you wait in the drive through and they had the weather channel on. It showed the temp in La as being 87!!! Yikes, and if you add the humidity, double YIKES! I can honestly tell you I would not run if I lived there. No way.

Total Distance

Ran 5.5 slower miles 9:20 ave pace.  It was cold this morning...this weather is crazy.  It felt good just to run slower and not care today.  Also did pushups and 40 minutes of yoga and actually fell asleep during the end relaxation.  I guess I need more sleep!

So I have also had shoe problems.  I have run in nike zoom moir's for close to 3 years now and have never had any problems.  My new pair I got last month caused severe leg pain.  I broke them in the same as always but there must have been some kind of defect.  If I wore my old pair there would be no pain at all.  Returned them and now I don't know if I should try another pair or a new shoe all together.  I REALLY need new shoes.  Any suggestions?

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 23:47:06 from 71.219.84.191

I say go with what works! Do they have a shoe store there where you can run in the shoes? And where they analyze your foot strike and make suggestions? A running store anywhere?

I always wear the same show, ALWAYS. I had so many problems with other shoes, that when i found a pair that worked, I stuck with them. They are ugly, but they work.

Good work outs today, as always.

Beautiful morning today...a little chilly.  Ran 11 miles at 8:50 average pace.  My legs are hurting a little from my old shoes.  We had a very busy day today.  The girls are out for spring break so we walked through the walkways in the swamps for a couple of hours (saw 18 lizards, 14 frogs, 3 snakes and 2 salamanders...they had fun keeping track), went swimming (since our pool opened today) and then had soccer practice.  Let's just say everyone's tired!

Finally got some new shoes today!  Tested a bunch of pairs and decided to go with Brooks.  We will see how they work out...I am super excited to run tomorrow!

LOVE BROOKS.

Hey, your miles are going through the roof, be careful! We do not want you to get hurt. No more than a 10% a week increase (listen to me talk.....but, aside from the few weeks off I take here and there, I do pretty good on this rule.)

I am not worried, you are SMART!!! I can not imagine doing a long run on a Monday. ICK!!! Soccer season makes long Saturday runs so hard, we deal with it in the spring and the fall. Last fall we were getting up between 4 and 4:30 five days a week. It was awful, I was so tired.

Hey thanks for saying HI. Random that you're at Deb's house..I guess you know her from your hubbies being in the same Dental school? You should totally talk your husband into setting up his practice in CO...it is BEAUTIFUL here! And there is such a fit/healthy population of people in the whole Denver metro area. You'd really fit in, I'm sure. I'm glad you're enjoying Boulder running! Are you training for a specific marathon soon?
